Modified carbohydrate profile

modified carbohydrate profile

HINEX DM is a sugar-free carbohydrate-modified food – meaning the usual sources of energy such as sucrose and rapidly digestible polysaccharides typically found in standard enteral formulas are replaced with ingredients that are slowly and steadily digested and absorbed. There is evidence from clinical studies that show consuming foods with modified carbohydrate profile is associated with less severe postprandial glycaemic response and reductions in fasting insulin.

Low glycaemic index and glycaemic load

low glycaemic

Glycaemic index (GI) indicates how rapidly a carbohydrate is digested and released as glucose into the bloodstream. Foods low on the GI (GI ≤55) tend to release glucose slowly and steadily, which helps maintain good glucose control whereas foods high on the GI (GI >70) release glucose rapidly causing sudden spike in blood glucose, which can help offset hypoglycaemia. Glycaemic load (GL) measures the amount of carbohydrates in a serving (gm) of food. Low-GL foods (GL <10) have little impact on blood glucose, while high-GL foods (GL >20) cause prolonged rise in blood glucose.

HINEX DM has a lower glycaemic index (GI value of 36) and glycaemic load (GL value of 7) when compared with standard enteral formulas and some of diabetes-specific formulas available in the market. HINEX DM thus helps induce a delayed, sustained and limited rise in postprandial glucose levels and is suitable for people with diabetes, impaired glucose tolerance and non-diabetic hyperglycaemia.

29 vitamins and minerals

vitamin and minerals

HINEX DM contains 29 vital vitamins and minerals to help support a number of essential bodily functions including smooth functioning of the nervous and circulatory systems, improving energy production, immunity, and skin, muscle and bone health.

Important micronutrients

Taurine: Taurine exerts a variety of biological actions, including anti-oxidation, modulation of ion movement, osmoregulation, modulation of neurotransmitters, and conjugation of bile acids, which may maintain physiological homeostasis. Taurine may help correct levels of blood viscosity and reduce the risk of heart-related diseases and complications.

Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA): ALA has been found to be useful as an adjunct therapy antidiabetic agent with insulin sensitizing activity. ALA is a versatile and potent antioxidant, which may help in the treatment of diabetic neuropathy and reduce pain from free-radical damage.

Carnitine: Carnitine helps body correctly use fat in the production of energy. Carnitine helps to break down fatty acids in the body and binds acyl residues. For these reasons, it may be useful to prevent diabetic ketoacidosis.

Inositol: Inositol is an important part of several key bodily processes including the health of cell membranes and blood cholesterol levels. Inositol may help reduce blood glucose and reverse the effects of diabetic neuropathy (nervous damage) caused by diabetes.

Vitamin B1: Thiamine administration can prevent the formation of harmful by-products of glucose metabolism, reduce oxidative stress and improve endothelial function.

Vitamin B6: Vitamin B6 can help prevent the formation of advanced glycation end products and improve glucose tolerance and nerve health. Vitamin B6 has been shown to help avert complications of diabetes such as neuropathy, retinopathy, and kidney damage.

Vitamin B12: Vitamin B12 and folic acid treatment can decrease homocysteine level and increase HTase/PON activity in patients with diabetes. Vitamin B12 is necessary for the correct functioning of nerve cells, and therefore taking it as a supplement may help to reduce nerve damage.

Vitamin C: By increasing the amount of vitamin c in the bloodstream, the amount of sorbitol (which is a harmful sugar that leads to increased risk of diabetes-related complications) may be lowered. Vitamin C may also help improve glucose tolerance.

Vitamin E: Vitamin E can oxygenate the blood, fight toxins and improve the activity of insulin within the body. Vitamin E may help improve glucose tolerance and as an antioxidant may reduce the risk/severity of diabetes-related complications.

Chromium: Chromium is a vital nutrient that helps boost the functioning of insulin receptors, improve glucose tolerance, lower fasting glucose levels, decrease insulin levels and cut cholesterol and triglyceride levels, whilst increasing HDL-cholesterol levels.

Biotin: Biotin works in synergy with insulin in the body, and independently increases the activity of the enzyme glucokinase. Biotin, thus, may help lower blood glucose levels and prevent diabetic neuropathy.

Magnesium: Magnesium deficiency may interrupt the insulin secretion process, and also increase insulin resistance. Magnesium deficiency has been shown to directly influence the blood sugar control.

Potassium: Potassium may help improve insulin sensitivity, and the effectiveness of the hormone.

Zinc: Zinc may be a crucial element in insulin metabolism. Zinc is well-known as a powerful guardian against viral infections, and may also act to protect beta cells from destruction.

Manganese: Manganese could be a key co-factor in the way enzymes within the body handle glucose metabolism.

Triple blend protein

Triple Blend Protein

HINEX DM comprises a blend of three high-quality proteins – casein, whey protein isolate and soy protein isolate, which includes essential and non-essential amino acids necessary for body’s growth and repair works and maintenance of good health. Collectively the three proteins have high biological value, protein efficiency ratio, net protein utilisation and true digestibility. Casein and soy isolate have slower utilization rates compared with whey isolate, which is digested, absorbed and processed quickly. This means a blend of these three proteins provide a consistent release of amino acids to the body and contribute additively to protein synthesis which helps meet body’s protein requirements during times of catabolic stress. Additionally, triple blend protein (especially why isolate) may induce insulinotropic effect, thermogenesis and satiety that may help optimise blood glucose levels. There is good evidence that high-quality protein improves lean body mass and muscle strength, and helps reduce
long-term medical complications,
the incidence of ulcers,
the risk of falls in frail and malnourished people,
the length of hospital stay and
hospital readmission rate.

Fibres

Fibers

HINEX DM contains prebiotic fibre fructooligosaccharides (FOS) and dietary fibres (fibersol-2, hydrolysed guar gum). Prebiotics are digestion-resistant fibres (short-chain carbohydrates) that are selectively fermented by specific genera of colonic bacteria to produce metabolites, which helps modulate human gut microbiota. Evidence suggests prebiotic health benefits are attributed to immune modulation and bacterial metabolite production (short‐chain fatty acid production), which helps improve gut integrity and functions, and prevent or postpone diet-related diseases.

Easy mixing and delicious vanilla flavour

Easy mixing and delicious vanilla flavour

Lack of miscibility of powder supplement in water/milk leads to formation of lumps. HINEX DM powder blends well with water and milk and is good to taste (delicious vanilla flavour).

Instruction for use: For 1 serving

Step 1: To prepare 228 mL feed, take 190 mL of potable water in a glass.

Step 2: Add 4 level scoops (approx. 50 g) of HINEX DM. Use the scoop provided along with jar.

Step 3: Stir until completely dissolved.
